“Health Food” is a defined legal category in Taiwan
In Taiwan, Health Food generally refers to a product that has obtained regulatory approval and may communicate the approved health-care effect. A general food containing nutritional or functional ingredients cannot automatically use the same claims.
Classification changes the development route
An approved Health Food requires more extensive safety, efficacy, quality, and manufacturing documentation. A general food may reach the market faster, but the available labeling and advertising scope is narrower.
Choose the regulatory route from the commercial objective
Brand position, intended claim, channel, price, and launch timing should determine the route. Formulation and evidence can then be designed around that decision.
